Madeline Grace, Born Aug 15th, 2010

Dear Friends,

I wanted to update everyone with what is going on in our lives right now. For some of you this is the first you are hearing of this and for that I apologize. I will try to summarize the beginning.

For 7 months now we have been pregnant with our 4th little girl. From the first ultrasound there were some irregularities. First a 2 vessel cord (2 vessels in the umbilical cord instead of the normal 3), then a heart that is not formed correctly (the left side is smaller than the right), a hole in her heart, leaking around the heart, then something weird about her kidneys, and finally the possibility of brain issues. Sorry for the lack of medical terms here although I am sure some of you appreciate it. The doctors would not make any decisions until she was born and wanted her to go full term and get as big as possible. We have been praying and trusting in our mighty and merciful God to care for us during this time. As we met regularly with our specialists things began (slowly) looking a bit better.

On Sunday morning (yesterday), Lisa was concerned that the baby wasn’t moving around so much. She called the doctors who instructed her to go to the hospital for a (hopefully reassuring) ultrasound. That didn’t work out as we planned and soon turned into an emergency c-section delivery and Madeline Grace Wiegel was born 6 weeks early on Aug. 15th, 2010 @ 12:58pm. She didn’t cry any and weighed in at 2lbs 8ozs. She has been living in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) with mom and dad by her side since then.

Madeline is on a ventilator to help her breathe although they think she might come off it later today. She is going through a battery of tests, ultrasounds, and MRI’s to check out everything. Doctors aren’t sure what the plan is going to be but I think we have a big team of doctors discussing her case and deciding on the best care for her. Right now the only plan is to take it hour by hour and test by test. Thank you so much to all who are praying for us, your prayers are powerfully felt here. God has given us such peace and relief from stress over this. This is truly something that is out of our hands and all we can do is stay near her and pray for her.

How can you help – Pray. That is all we ask. Madeline still has a long laundry list of things to overcome to entitle her to a life. Pray that God would work on her body, restoring what needs to be restored and fixing what needs to be fixed. Pray that God would do this so she wouldn’t have to go through surgeries or transplants. Pray that doctors can see what God already knows and make wise decisions that will be according to His will. Pray for healing for Lisa. Pray for Molly, Miranda, and Macy (our little girls) that they continue to do well with those that are caring for them. Continue to pray for peace and comfort for us, it keeps us steady. Thanks for all of you and your love and prayers.

In His loving grace,

Shanker Wiegel

p.s. Lisa just added that you could always get her Starbucks gift cards.
